Well I just spent the time read from where I last left on this thread days ago (on I think page 5) rather than sleep (got hate rolling 1 on those Wisdom checks) and I feel that I should add my 2 cents (wow one failed WIS check after another...):
Well it's more a summary of the side I've taken... Shonen is usually directed a young (male) audience. Just because the targetted audience is far too young to grasp some of the more serious aspects of life doesn't mean you can't watch a show targetted at them for that sole reason. Also all this bashing on OP; I'm not particularly of an all out fan of the series, but it's unique and creative in it's own right. Sure the Straw Hat crew are as much pirates as the entire Konoha village are ninjas in Naruto, but who really cares? This coming from the person who hates the word "female samurai" when samurai existed when 90% of the world's was sexist and *****es about the pop culter representation of shinobi altogether... Feel free to keep this thread which has been beaten dead already alive arguing with any of my pointless points. I'll probably not check again except to quell my curoisity of such an event and see how others have reacted (I hope this economy picks back up soon so I can get a job and thereby come closer to being able to afford having a life.) Edit: Cyber cookie for everyone who understand my vague puns. |

Tell that to Hikari Link. He is one that tries to push his opinion as truth even more than anyone else involved.

Young males, and I was very much one four score and seven years ago, actually like shows with more violence in them. It makes them feel cooler and more mature. Just look at even something like Pokémon; even something just like that made them all feel awesome. However, kiddy shows or things that are super censored, make them feel like nerdy babies and they don't want to watch them. For instance, when SpongeBob was actually funny, all little boys (yes, I can say "all little boys" without being a pedo) loved it. Now most of them don't like it because of how awful it is today.
Ishimaru Shun, I'm pretty sure that counters what you said, but then again I can't really even decode what you said. |

One Piece: Very unique (I'd never come up with half of the stuff that Oda does), but the most of the pirates are pirates in name only. Countless number of ninjas from Naruto only "ninja" in name. I hate the term "female samurai" since samurai were a male only warrior class. Onna Bugeishi were women of samurai families who recieved martial training and were most commonly called "female samurai" even though they not anywhere close to being samurai in status nor originaly used primarily combat. I hate pop culture representation of shinobi because in my opinion no ninja without a death wish would dress up in an easily indentifiable uniform such as shown in countless movies, shows and etc. and weren't always assassins (in particular generic evil assassins that are easily defeated while working in large numbers despite having the clear advantage). Shonen: Manga for young males. Most of these get a T/PG-13 rating over here in the states because of the difference in cultural views on violence. Enough said. If that's not clear enough, then I don't know any other langauges (other than otaku and I'm sure that there are few words left I need to learn.) |

Other than the fact that I've repeated an unnecessary amount of times that the majority of the things I say are opinions, facts remain facts and there is no reason to sugarcoat them as otherwise. You do realize that his post is quite clearly in favor of what I am saying. Everything I've said about dubbing and the lie, I've stated is my own opinion, but now I am simply stating the fact that the target demographic for Shounen is children. Yes that includes teenagers, because as it turns out, teenagers are children. This is not a series aimed at late teens. I'd say that about 10-15 would best describe the target demographic, key word being target. That doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by people who are either younger or older, but they are the key target. Of course, this age range is actually speculation, because the thing about demographics is that they are really imprecise, if you know what I mean. It's like I said before, the stuff in here is no better or worse for children that Harry Potter when you look at it. That's to speak nothing of quality, but as far as just the overall violence and such, it's about the same level.
