Why is Ebisu not a jonin?

Source of info for what? Special Jounin is a different rank, what more do you want? So far, I haven't found whatever the source is that gives the info on ranks, but I know I've seen it, I just can't remeber where and I know that pretty much every Naruto site gives that explanation of what a Special Jounin us.

But seriously, look at all the Spcial Jounin, then look at the regualr ones and tell me they deserve the same rank. Ebisu, Ibiki, Anko, Hayate, and they're lot. Compare that to Kakashi, Kurenai, Asuma, Guy, and Zabuza. They just aren't in the same world.

The definition I have come up with (tentative of course), is that Special Jonin are jonin rank in a single category, but not all across the board, which is what Jonin are. Hence the "special" part, meaning that they are specialists in a field.

I just thought maybe it was in one of the databooks or something. I don't remember the manga or anime ever calling someone special jonin.

Actually, Kakashi does refer to Ebisu as a Speacial Jounin when he has him teach Naruto. Other than that, you are right, it is not mentioned much and yes, the databooks are where most of their stated ranks can be found. Interestingly, Shizune has been a Jounin since she was introduced and the Sound Trio wasn't actually genin. They never had ranks because their village never had an academy. It's on the page in Databook 1 that describes ranks. Also, when you look at their profiles in the Databooks, the area which normally has a rank is blank.

Oh yes, I'm quite aware of that. I considered presenting it several times, but ultimately, it's a fan wiki with no source citation, so while the information is accurate, that doesn't change the fact that people will say counter-argue with the fact that it has nothing official to back it up.
