View Full Version : Myke`s Predictions for "Chase Cards"

Hello all you fellow Humans!,
Im going to do some metagame predictions, and try to predict the cards that will be the "chase cards" in the set.

Some of you ask, "What is a chase card?". Its a card that is so good that nearly everyone wants it for their deck. Making the card, reguardless of rarity, hard to find, because few want to trade it it away.

Obviously, Some cards mentioned here, may be included in starter decks, and truly wont be that hard to find, but i`ll include it anyway.

So lets go though what we belive will be in the English Set #1, and see what we can find.

When i mention a card name, im pulling it from my semi-accurate spoilers located here:
http://www.bandaicg.com/naruto/showthread.php?t=263
http://www.bandaicg.com/naruto/showthread.php?t=264
http://www.bandaicg.com/naruto/showthread.php?t=265

The names im using are from the spoiler, and may not be the offical english names as seen in Shonen Jump, so when in doubt, check the collectors number, the english and japanese collector numbers always match.

Chase Ninjas!:
Sasuke Uchiha (Ninja-2)
Sasuke has the best healthy stats for a turn 0 ninja in set 1 at 3/1. Since i belive fire/thunder decks and even fire/water decks will be popular choices, Sasuke is a great choice for both.

Konohamaru (Ninja-7)
Although, I think this is the worse of the 2 Konohamaru in the first set, i belive this one will see more people chasing it. Mainly cuse it allows you to get out your high level ninjas quicker, Turn 5 Hokage? SURE!

The Third Hokage (Ninja-13)
HELLO! Heal 1 Ninja a turn? OKEY! Every fire deck will be running him. Hes one of the best ninjas in the deck as well. His 6/4 healty stats makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Uchiha Sasuke (Ninja-20)
Sure, this Sasuke cannot be sent out with teams consisting of other genin, but with a 4/0 healthy stat and a turn cost of 1, this Sasuke (like the other version) is a beatdown waiting to happen.

Hatake Kakashi (Ninja-23)
Why will this one be a chase? Beacuse he powers up with no effort. He copies any Jutsu that powers up an attack of a ninja he is in combat with. At his 6/3 healthy stat, it makes him one efficent beatstick as well.

Zabuza Momochi (Ninja-24)
The only ninja in this set that can send an entire team to the discard pile. Yeah, He will see play.

Hatake Kakashi (Ninja-37)
Kakashi will be popular. His ability powers up Konoha Genin on his team. Since hes a 6 healthy attack as it is. His teams will be attacking for AT LEAST 8. Blam!!

Now lets move on to Mission Cards:

Disaster of the Nine-Tails Spirit (Mission-5)
FWOOOSH!!! Deal 1 Damage to all ninjas in play. All good decks run "reset buttons" and this is as close to that as you are going to get in Naruto.

End of Battle (Mission-21)
And the exact opposite of the above. Heal all your injured Ninjas in one swell foop. This reverse "reset button" is the pinnacle of healing efficency. It only has a turn cost of 2 as well. Nice.

A vow of Pain (Mission-24)
Mulligan in the middle of a game! This lets you take your hand, put it at the bottom of the deck, then draw that many cards. How good can this be? In Magic: The gathering, a card that did the same thing was banned. In Pokemon a similar card was not reprinted (Prof. Oak). This, in the early game, can fetch you answers quickly.

Visitation of the 4 red leaves (Mission- 35)
Search your deck for any Mission card. This shold just read "search your deck for a card that may as well win you the game next turn". Bwhaah.

Shooting Star (Mission - 40)
Have a Sasuke in play, but another in your hand? Shooting Star basicly changes the name of a Jounin or lower ninja in play. So now you can have both sasukes in play. I think some decks will definalty run this, so they can pack their deck full of sweet sweet Sasukes!

Moving on to the Jutsus!!!

Sexy Jutsu (Jutsu - 3)
Surpise! Your ninja now has an attack of ZERO. Great combat tricks, and a great card. A Sexy card, if you will.

Harem Jutsu (Jutsu - 4)
Yes, its requirements are very steep (male + replication) BUT turning an entire team of males to a total attack power of zero is AWESOME. Talk about wrecking.

Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu (Jutsu - 5)
When you see an "X" in a cost, greatness usually follows. With this sucker you can easily pump your ninjas into situations that will net an outstanding victory.

8 Trigram divination seal spell forumla (Jutsu - 6)
Maybe you dont realize how good this card is yet. Its VERY good...play with 3 in every deck (if you run fire)....Play with 3 until you are not allowed anymore haha. Not only do you wreck your opponents teams attack power, you make your opponent lose a ninja, and basicly lose a draw. 3 things in one. Awesome Sauce.

Silennt killing technique (Jutsu - 14)
Hint: When use this with Zabuza 24 it bascily reads "your opponent discards an entire team that just blocked Zabuza". The cost is very steep and so are the requirements, but MAN when you pull this combo off, you probably won the game.

Lighting Blade (Justsu - 30)
Sure it requires a Kakashi to use, but its +7/+0 for (Lighting and 1), At least 12 damage if kakashi is by himself, add kakashi up with some decent backup, and you can easily attack into 18+ range. BOOM.

Im sure some cards will end up being chase cards that we cannot predict, but these are my choices. What do you think?

Try again, i asked about that at GAMA, if you have the chakara for it, you can heal as many as you like.. at least, thats what james said... and i think Yuyo confirmed it... cant remember, brain is fried....

Pro. Oak >>>>>>> this card. The Big O let you draw a new hand of 7 no matter how many cards you dropped for him. I'm not sure what MTG card you're talking about so I can't comment on it. The rest of the cards seem good though.

Professor Oak was broken, anyway.

Still, free Mulligan...

didn't P-Oak make you discard and draw? P-Elm made you shuffle your hand in and draw.

can't remember the numbers that you drew, but we all get the idea....

Yeah, you had to drop your hand. But dropping 3 to pick up 7 > setting aside 3 to draw 3. You also couldn't play any other Trainer cards the same turn you played Elm. Also don't forget you're losing a card when you play this one. If it has a hand cost (can someone confirm if it does or not?), I definately wouldn't play it.

Japanese site says otherwise, FAQ Question #46:
http://www.carddas.com/naruto/faq/faq.shtml

(You may need the japanese language pack installed to see the japanese below)
Q. 「三代目火影(忍-13)」や「日向ヒナタ(忍-30)」などの効果は、1ターンの間に何度も使用することができますか?
Q. As for The Third Hokage (Ninja - 13)`s and Hyuga Hinata (Ninja - 30)`s Effects, In 1 turn, Can i use it as many times as I want??
A. できません。忍者や依頼人の効果や、「常駐」を持つ作戦の効果は、特に書かれていない限り、1ターンの間に 1度しか使用できません。
A. You cannot. The Effects of Ninjas, Clients, and Cards with "Permanent Station", Unless its written otherwise, You can only use 1 time per turn.

I was pretty sure the Neji with Accumptance tokens would be a "Chase", and thats not just cause hes my fav character
The Neji with acupunture tokens isnt so great, yeah he prevents healing, but healing doesnt occur super often anyway. Otherwise hes a 3/0 with a turn cost of 2. Hardly the peak of efficency. Hes OKEY, but i cant see him being a chase card.

I'm not sure what MTG card you're talking about so I can't comment on it.
Im speaking of Windfall from Urza`s Saga. Its limited in Vintage (Type 1) and Banned in Legacy (Type 1.X) and in Block Constructed. If something requres limiting in Type 1, where ALL 13 years worth of cards are legal, that really says something.

ya thats better anyway, if not until he got hurt you could have an army of healthy ninja...

or theyd have to make him a SR

That card is also a double-edged sword. It forces your opponent to discard as well, and you both draw cards equal to the highest number of cards discarded. So the Naruto card < Windfall

Prof. Oak--> Discard your hand,m then draw 7 cards.
Prof. Elm--> Shuffle your hand back into your deck, then draw 7 cards. You can't play any more trainers this turn. (The original Cleffa had this effect for its attack, minus the no-trainer condition.)

Whether you play Pokemon, Naruto, MTG or some other TCG, any card that lets you draw cards is the definiition of "chase card." A Vow Of Pain sounds like a definite keeper!

HydeoftheWind

Not always. Sometimes the conditions for the draw are way to high.

Myke, I've tried to find cards that mill your opponents deck and aside from Kakai Bug Tech. there doesn't seem to be anymore. There are 2 ways to win the game one being battle rewards and the other though decking, I'm just surprised that there aren't too many that aid in decking. Are there any coming out that will aid in future sets or is the mill a type of deck that just isn't used in Naruto? I'm just curious. Thanks.

HydeoftheWind

Just a little bit. Sorry.

The decking win condition is (almost) useless...in my opinion.

I think mission cards #34 a reason to live and #42 reborn will see a lot of play. Making your opponent lose a battle reward as well as steal his/her ninja. A reason to live is one evil card... As for reborn, your opponent just got the upper hand because you lost your best ninja. Not anymore...very useful.

MykeXero
04-16-2006, 08:32 PM
There are some later cards that remove cards from your opponents deck as part of their effects, like Itachi`s jutsus, but those dont show up for quite a long time.

Its just a smattering of cards here and there. Im sure there are cards tohugh that deal with milling, and im sure they`ll show up sooner then later, i just probably cant remember them off the top of my head.

Kill your own strong ninja and Reborn him just to make him healthy again...yessss....

well the whole thing with decking in this game is there often cards that make you draw that can make yourself lose . also since the battle rewards come directly from your deck your losing cards there also. so if you subtract th number of battle rewards that you can get without winning(9) you have 31 cards that means if you happen to have a draw deck after a number of turns you might run low on cards. the length of the game though all depends on whether people are 0using there ninja to block and whether people are just injuring ninjas or actual gettin battle rewards.

Nope, I'm more of a recycler, I get enjoyment out of recycling stuff:cool: and I like my decks cheap, too. So once PtH comes out any cards with a combination of those two types will be my "chase" cards(as in I'll be chasing them regardless of whether they are "chase" or not).

this sounds like YGO again.

too bad they can't mix things up so you really don't know what sets are going to be released. like sets 3 and 10, or 4 and 8...

otherwise, if you followed the japanese game, you should already know what deck to make up before the next set comes out...

Kakihara
04-20-2006, 06:57 PM
Kinda true but mixing sets up would be a bit weird, it would be better to just relece rapid normal size sets.....normal as in original size.....

People would probably not want to play you for fun, if you had a shuffling deck. And as far as tournies go, you`d probably end up with alot of losses due to time limit...
