I guess I'll start out explaining why I ran the deck I did. Well me and my friends started playing dragonball when the starters came in stores and played in the tournament at Gen-con and did poorly even though I don't think we had bad decks or anything like that, that disappointment combined with the fact we all play yugioh already made us kinda push dragonball aside for pretty much all of set 2 but by the time set 3 rolled around and we looked at what was in destructive fury we decided to get back in. I thought unique was gonna be awesome so I immediately sought out 3 king piccolos and 2 lord slugs later on from just playing in our local tourneys I decided to go ahead and pick up villain stuff as well since other than cell and hell flash was really cheap. From weeks of playing mono-unique and seeing how great resistance was I decided that the best deck to run would be villain/unique since imo it's just about on par with mono-villain without resistance and is definitely better with. I didn't do too much playtesting with the deck since I felt really comfortable with what I was running except I decided to run 2 evil containment wave and a ball of seal in the main deck over resistance since I didn't expect too many mono decks it was a good choice but I don't think those were the right 3 cards to use in place of resistance.

Walls of text are bad so I'll go ahead and end my deck decision rambling and move on to the tourney. I got there at 9 a.m. and not many people were there yet just the locals and a group from Ohio. I had my deck all sorted and and just went to work on my deck list. I decided to name my deck Special Beam Cannon!!! because I side one copy and it sounded funny. I signed up and then played yugioh for a while since we started a bit late because of waiting for Snow and Soviet Prince's gorups as well as a few kinks in the software. Finally with no further delay here are my matches.

Round 1 Paul vs. Justin
game 1: I opened a hand with a violet and blue and some other stuff I believe and if I remember correctly decided to keep with no 0 because in my past experiences mulliganing just makes it worse. Even though I went first I pretty much just get stomped as he hits his curve
game 2: This game lasted a long time I think I kept a hand with no 0 again but I may have dropped a piccolo jr. on turn o in one of these games but I know that SCR was nowhere to be seen. This game was a lot closer as Resistance of the majin did it's job, sadly the only realy big guy I could get out with it was lord slug who got hit with a Shenron so I ended up decking out.

I wasn't feeling good about this tournament at all anymore, I lost round 1 and it seemed like it was just gonna be one of those days where my deck just wouldn't work like it should and I would just lose all day to bad draws.

Round 2 bye
Not too great for my tie breakers but I did enjoy the break, I took this time to grab a snack and get something to drink and watched Cody's interesting deck in action.

Round 3 Paul vs. ???
I don't remember the name sorry but he was one of Snow's friends.
game 1: I was up against another mono-villain and lost game 1 just like I did previously with him just hitting curve and me missing drops it just seemed like there was nothing I could do.
game 2: Was going much like game 1 except I hit a resistance on turn 5 that he was completely not expecting and just scored the win off of the power of the majin.
game 3: I was drawing a bit better this game and hit resistance on turn 5 again multiple times he had told me if I had another he would just scoop but I didn't so we continued until I had him on the ropes just as time was called. Sadly though I had overwhelming board presence due to a pilaf's wish I had more damage just as I thought I was going to have the win stolen from me due to time he scooped not realizing that his turn was the last one. I guess I lucked out though had I just had another turn or so the game was over.

I was glad I got that win as even though I should have won that game I also should have lost because of the ****ty time procedures. Anyways I am feeling a bit more confident as my deck seemed to be running a lot better toward the end of my last match. I check the parings for round 4 and see I am playing my friend which made me happy and sad.

Round 4 Paul vs. Doyle
game 1: He is playing the alien/villain deck that me and Isaiah (the meijin) worked on the day before, we start out and he is going first but has to mulligan and he misses 0 or 1 I think. Isaiah comes over and asks us if we had considered drawing. I had thought about it since it would put us both in a better position to top then a loss but I know from playing a lot with Doyle that I had a pretty good chance at beating him and I had game 1 on lock already due to his ****ty draw so I decided to go for the win here so a draw or loss next round puts me in good position to top. I won game one hitting my curve as he missed drops.
game 2: This game goes even worse for Doyle as he has to mulligan twice and his curve consists of nothing then violet then east kai then nothing whereas I hit my curve, needless to say this game was over.

It sucked to have to beat Doyle but I was in a great position to top now seeing how as long as my opponent agreed to draw we would both top as long as I wasn't paired down and if I lose I still had a shot to top as long as I didn't get paired down.

Round 5 Paul vs. Cody
Before playing the first 3 tables decide to draw as tables 2 and 3 are guys from Ohio that know each other and I know Cody from yugioh and we tested a lot with each other at Gen-con. Me anc Cody decide to play anyways for fun anyways.
game 1: I don't really remember the details but I got stomped I would call Cody's deck the new and improved stomp down and that's what it did. The only thing I really remember this game is my SCR getting hit with merciless attack which hurt a lot.
game 2: I won this game though it was pretty close as I recall
game 3: He is going first and has to mulligan to 4 into a a completely unusable hand but since we are drawing he goes ahead and grabs a new hand of 4 so we can continue playing and even though he is down in card still beats me pretty badly flying on a pole with perfect cell is bad news.

Read on to the next post for top 8.

We wait a bit to see top 8 pairing and I made it in 6th place and my opponent is going to be Adam Smith. I give my deck to Isaiah for the deck check and run to burger king to get something to eat. I make it back just as top 8 is starting and take my seat and start shuffling a lot since my deck was sorted for the deck check.

Top 8 Paul vs. Adam
game 1: He is playing Unique/Alien and wins the die roll and is going first and had to mulligan. Though while we are playing I notice at one point after both of us had played a tech or two he was up a card on two on my in the hand even though he hadn't missed a drop I found this odd since I was two cards up in the beginning by going 2nd and not having to mulligan. I ignore it and just assume that I am miscalculating somewhere. This game lasts a long time but somewhere in the middle I see he has 2 captured in his chi and a friend of his watching even says something like "man that sucks you charged two captured" So later on in the game when he uses captured on my violet I note that he has none left and use ball of seal on stomping to prevent losing from any of those shenanigans. I don't remember much the details but even though I have a lot of damage due to pilafs and my guys wearing his guys down it looks like I am going to win then my king piccolo gets hit with a captured ??? I ask him how he has a captured when he had two in chi earlier and then used a third on my violet and he basically gives the classic I don't know what you are talking about his friend did the same when I mentioned that he had said earlier that it sucked he had charged two captured. Knowing I wouldn't win calling a judge over I just let it go but even with the captured he didn't have enough to win and then next turn I dropped violet and tried to swing for game but was so upset over the captured thing forgot to remove king piccolo from the team :( So I passed stymied for a turn but then one next turn by putting violet in the team instead of kp and dealing lethal thrash with super garlic jr.
game 2: I am seriously thinking about asking Isaiah to watch our match at this point but I am not the type of guy to cause drama and I didn't want to hear the I don't cheat blah blah blah so I just continue not really caring as I at least made top 8. This game is over quick as I have to mulligan once or twice and just scoop a few turns in.
game 3: This game goes the same as 2 with me going first but having to mulligan to 4 the only saving grace was he did as well. I believe I miss turn 0 and 2 but I have my ideal 3, 4, 5, and 6 drops along with efo and expanding vibration to prevent stomping for game situations. He on the other hand hit most of his early game but dropped like nothing later on and in a pivotal point in the game he charges all but three cards from hand and I am fully expecting a captured stomping combo but feel ok because of expanding vibration but then he drops dabura and hits my expanding vibration out of 5 cards in hand. I pretty much lost all hope at this point as he plays captured on king piccolo but to avoid anything shady I count how much chi he uses and I only count 5 I tell him he needs to pay 7 and he doesn't dare pull anything seeing as how at this point our game is the only one left and Isaiah is watching so paying the two more he is left with 1 chi and not enough for stomping I then efo out Dabura to discard his stomping and he scoops in the face of my big guys and his no hand.

I was so glad I was able to pull this game out but I was really sad about the shady stuff going on I had nothing but respect for Adam before this since he is an accomplished yugioh player and everyone I had played up until now had been really fair and friendly. I go to check who is in top 4 and get introduced to Snow we talk a bit and then find out we have to play though Snow did tell me I had the edge game 1 as he decided to main his resistances.

Top 4: Paul vs. Snow
game 1: The game is pretty close but me going first puts it a bit in my favor then around turn 2 snow forgets to place a dragonball on one of his guys he notices next turn but doesn't ask me if he can still place it which honestly I am glad about because I would just feel too guilty to say no especially since Snow seemed like such a cool guy in the short time we had been talking. It works out in the end where Snow has 7 damage and 6 dragonballs so I swing with my big team with super garlic and maybe and android and violet not real sure and also swing with SCR and Picolo Jr. he blocks SCR and Piccolo JR. but lets Super Garlic through which is just what I wanted I have piccolo Jr. use evil containment wave on his king piccolo ftw.
game 2: Snow is still kinda reeling about his mistake and things don't get any better when he has to mulligan to 4, this game is over about as soon as it starts and I curve out and he misses too many drops.

I hated that my match with Snow went the way it did but bad draws and player mistakes are both fairly common occurrences in card games and though I could tell Snow was upset he showed great sportsmanship offering a hand shake and we discussed the match some more later in a casual manner. Finally though I didn't expect it I was in the finals against Cody Miller who had went undefeated up to this point with his unique new alien/villain stompdown deck with cool card choices like flying on a pole nad all kais gathered. I wasn't sure how this match would go.

Finals Paul vs. Cody
game 1: I'm not sure who won the dice roll though this would normally be really important Cody was plagued with bad draws again as he kept a seemingly good hand with a 0 and a 2 drop as well as some other good cards he didn't draw into 1 or a 3 when it came time to play them and scooped in the face of super garlic jr. on turn 4 due to efo.
game 2: We both drew pretty even but his deck was really scary when he gets to go first and draws decent he racks on a lot of damage early and then get me up to 8 damage with all kais gathered and I only got like 1 or 2 damage on him but then I bring out the big guys via deployment and upa's wish and swing for 6 in one turn. Scared about what his deck can do with 6 cards in hand I watch as he thinks for a while then charges off top he then uses flying on a pole which I negate with expanding vibration then instead of using a captured or something for game he uses dende's wish which I assume would give him the captured stomping stuff he was looking for and then he scoops  He reveals that though he has a lot of chi none of it is alien so he can't use his all kais gathered or captured talk about bad luck that with roughly 18 alien cards in the deck he couldn't hit one off the top charge that turn and had none with about 5-6 cards in hand, but I'm not complaining :D

So I end up with the 1st place prize and though it is sadly awakening instead of destructive fury I did manage to pull a 2nd form cell and SS Vegeta along with another shien which I like since I like earth next set. All in all it was a fun tourney, I hope I don't bore you too much with my long *** report

Gah. Turn 4 still ONLY having a Colonel Violet on the board sucks. I should have kept that opening hand. Anyways, it's my fault for forgetting the Dragonball. It was the top 4, so if you'd forgotten I'd have said "sorry, not much to do in this case" and kept playing. Though, the first match was awesome. I would've had you!

LoL, but naw, I can't complain losing to a mirror match. Great game, homie.

Ya I am the same in yugioh I guess I just feel more casual about this game since it's got a smaller player base and all, I pretty much let people take back misplays all day and only once did I ask to take back a misplay I made. Imo though mislays are part of the game and I hate it when people ask me if they can take them back because I feel like an *** when I say no but sometimes you have to to win.

I completely agree. I made the mistake, no other way to look at it. It's not like you tricked me, I just messed up. I want to play you again, soon. I've learned from my mistake and I definitely think we'd have an interesting match.

Well it is a high level tournament where you can win some good prizes. You shouldn't be expected to allow people to take back mistakes. I'd even venture to say that someone who asks if they can take back a mistake is being a bad sportsmen by putting their opponent in that situation. It's definitely not a spot that anyone wants to be in.

congrats paul on the win, I wish I could have topped but a draw in the 4th round pretty much stopped my chances becuse I am convinced 3-2 would have been enough to top. I also wish i could have gotten a game in with snow just to see where we each stand. ending the tourney with 2-2-1 was very dissaponinting due to wondering what if I won instead of drew, but all in all I believe it a nice record to have for my 1st big tourney in dragonball ccg.

All though I had some regrets both of my losses where played to the end and I believe I hang to the end with cody with him beating me in the 3rd game of the first round.

snow, i remember you asking me if you could put on your dragonball tokens a turn late and i let you. you should have asked paul silly. i got lucky the 2nd round because someone called one of my misplays but he let me fix it. i probably would have lost if he didn't :/
