I guess I'll start out explaining why I ran the deck I did. Well me and my friends started playing dragonball when the starters came in stores and played in the tournament at Gen-con and did poorly even though I don't think we had bad decks or anything like that, that disappointment combined with the fact we all play yugioh already made us kinda push dragonball aside for pretty much all of set 2 but by the time set 3 rolled around and we looked at what was in destructive fury we decided to get back in. I thought unique was gonna be awesome so I immediately sought out 3 king piccolos and 2 lord slugs later on from just playing in our local tourneys I decided to go ahead and pick up villain stuff as well since other than cell and hell flash was really cheap. From weeks of playing mono-unique and seeing how great resistance was I decided that the best deck to run would be villain/unique since imo it's just about on par with mono-villain without resistance and is definitely better with. I didn't do too much playtesting with the deck since I felt really comfortable with what I was running except I decided to run 2 evil containment wave and a ball of seal in the main deck over resistance since I didn't expect too many mono decks it was a good choice but I don't think those were the right 3 cards to use in place of resistance.
Walls of text are bad so I'll go ahead and end my deck decision rambling and move on to the tourney. I got there at 9 a.m. and not many people were there yet just the locals and a group from Ohio. I had my deck all sorted and and just went to work on my deck list. I decided to name my deck Special Beam Cannon!!! because I side one copy and it sounded funny. I signed up and then played yugioh for a while since we started a bit late because of waiting for Snow and Soviet Prince's gorups as well as a few kinks in the software. Finally with no further delay here are my matches.
Round 1 Paul vs. Justin
game 1: I opened a hand with a violet and blue and some other stuff I believe and if I remember correctly decided to keep with no 0 because in my past experiences mulliganing just makes it worse. Even though I went first I pretty much just get stomped as he hits his curve
game 2: This game lasted a long time I think I kept a hand with no 0 again but I may have dropped a piccolo jr. on turn o in one of these games but I know that SCR was nowhere to be seen. This game was a lot closer as Resistance of the majin did it's job, sadly the only realy big guy I could get out with it was lord slug who got hit with a Shenron so I ended up decking out.
I wasn't feeling good about this tournament at all anymore, I lost round 1 and it seemed like it was just gonna be one of those days where my deck just wouldn't work like it should and I would just lose all day to bad draws.
Round 2 bye
Not too great for my tie breakers but I did enjoy the break, I took this time to grab a snack and get something to drink and watched Cody's interesting deck in action.
Round 3 Paul vs. ???
I don't remember the name sorry but he was one of Snow's friends.
game 1: I was up against another mono-villain and lost game 1 just like I did previously with him just hitting curve and me missing drops it just seemed like there was nothing I could do.
game 2: Was going much like game 1 except I hit a resistance on turn 5 that he was completely not expecting and just scored the win off of the power of the majin.
game 3: I was drawing a bit better this game and hit resistance on turn 5 again multiple times he had told me if I had another he would just scoop but I didn't so we continued until I had him on the ropes just as time was called. Sadly though I had overwhelming board presence due to a pilaf's wish I had more damage just as I thought I was going to have the win stolen from me due to time he scooped not realizing that his turn was the last one. I guess I lucked out though had I just had another turn or so the game was over.
I was glad I got that win as even though I should have won that game I also should have lost because of the ****ty time procedures. Anyways I am feeling a bit more confident as my deck seemed to be running a lot better toward the end of my last match. I check the parings for round 4 and see I am playing my friend which made me happy and sad.
Round 4 Paul vs. Doyle
game 1: He is playing the alien/villain deck that me and Isaiah (the meijin) worked on the day before, we start out and he is going first but has to mulligan and he misses 0 or 1 I think. Isaiah comes over and asks us if we had considered drawing. I had thought about it since it would put us both in a better position to top then a loss but I know from playing a lot with Doyle that I had a pretty good chance at beating him and I had game 1 on lock already due to his ****ty draw so I decided to go for the win here so a draw or loss next round puts me in good position to top. I won game one hitting my curve as he missed drops.
game 2: This game goes even worse for Doyle as he has to mulligan twice and his curve consists of nothing then violet then east kai then nothing whereas I hit my curve, needless to say this game was over.
It sucked to have to beat Doyle but I was in a great position to top now seeing how as long as my opponent agreed to draw we would both top as long as I wasn't paired down and if I lose I still had a shot to top as long as I didn't get paired down.
Round 5 Paul vs. Cody
Before playing the first 3 tables decide to draw as tables 2 and 3 are guys from Ohio that know each other and I know Cody from yugioh and we tested a lot with each other at Gen-con. Me anc Cody decide to play anyways for fun anyways.
game 1: I don't really remember the details but I got stomped I would call Cody's deck the new and improved stomp down and that's what it did. The only thing I really remember this game is my SCR getting hit with merciless attack which hurt a lot.
game 2: I won this game though it was pretty close as I recall
game 3: He is going first and has to mulligan to 4 into a a completely unusable hand but since we are drawing he goes ahead and grabs a new hand of 4 so we can continue playing and even though he is down in card still beats me pretty badly flying on a pole with perfect cell is bad news.
