one thing that I did not like about the naruto game was lack of tournament support. In the old dbz, there was a regionals in every state then a worlds every year, and gki if you placed and got invited. they had prizes of a couple thousand for these tournys. when I went to megacon for naruto there didn't even end up being a tournament. i was wondering if anybody knows how much effort they are going to put forth towards holding tournaments. If the tournaments are good more people will want to go, but at the naruto tournament there were like 15 people, the last dbz regionals I attended there were over 300. I just hope they have good tourny's cause thats one of the best parts about playing.

Naruto have very good tournament support. Chunins are suppose to be 1 pre state, but not all states have a place that wants to run one. Jonins are area regionals. Kages are village regionals. To play in the Sannin you have to at least be a Genin.
And I believe the DB ccg will have a similar support.
Also, IMO Bandai's local support is better then Scores.

You seem to be a little misinformed, dabigpinkguy. I'll enlighten you;
- Bandai sends out weekly tournament support for local hobby store tournaments. The winner receives a playmat and a promo.
- Bandai also has chuunin events at specific locations. Prizes for these include boxes of cards and boosters.
- Bandai has jonin events at specific conventions. There are about 10 of these a year. You have to watch and go to the right place in order to compete in one of these.
- If you want to have a big tournament at a convention then you need to apply for it. Tournaments don't magically happen at conventions. There is alwyas someone who is organizing it. If you don't put your foot forward and try to get a tournament then it won't occur.

thats the thing, the prizes for dbz were better, they included things like, a copy of your deck foil, boxes, uncut sheets, speacial cards only made for people placing in tourny's, such as vic drill which was only given to top 32 players at regionals and no where else. every year they made a world champion card exclusivley for the winner of worlds. on top of that if u placed at a regionals they had a tournament called the grand kai invitational, where you got a speacial your invited card. a few times the prize was creating your own card that got released with the next set. also you would never show up to a tournament and there not be one like megacon for florida this year. they would hold tournaments no matter who showed up. and prizes of $5000 didn't hurt either. I don't think naruto compares to dbz in tourny support. like i said the last regionals i went to had over 300 entrants. that was fun. you might be thinking of when they tried to re-do the game and alot of people stopped playing, but before they ran out of sets they had great support.

Consider this though - Bandai has had quite a few games that, for one reason or another, failed. NAruto is their first real hit, and they are still going through the growing pains. So far, it seems that they have taken what they have learned, and applied the 'fixes' to the DBCCG, so that by the time THIS game is big, we'll have a GREAT tournament scene....

cards exclusive to the winner of big touneys is an example of what not to do.

actually it's a great idea because, better prizes means more people will want to come, and with a chance like that to have your own special card and get a chance once a year, makes for bigger turn outs.

1) I believe what brought out most of the players for big old DBZ tournaments was the cash prize.
2) I guess you have not seen what has happened in the Yu-Gi-Oh seen with the special one of a kind cards. The winner gets a broken card, where from then on out, wins even more, if you are the winner, you shouldn't get a card that makes you win more. Now that they are releaseing the card in to the public, it only makes it so the people with the most money wins.
And we don't want Bandai games to be like that.

for the dbz winner cards they werent that broken. I have beaten people that had them myself. and If you read the first thing I wrote i mentioned the cash prizes. I didn't say that it was the best prize they had, i was just defending the fact that I thought a world champion card every year wasn't a bad Idea (granted it is not ridiculously broken and ruin the game, but used as a sort of trophy that will give players that one extra reason to show up at tournys)

My cash prize response was only responding to that post I quoted.
Also, there is a "trophy" for the winners, its the pins and titles.

Exclusive cards is usually a bad idea. It creates a huge uproar to win the tournament and the card won will always go up on ebay to be bought by a collector. It also introduces the idea that if that card is broken then the fact that it is exclusive makes it that much more valuable. Now, I don't have a problem with valuable cards as long as they are accessible by the general public through boosters, starters, etc.. However, if or when a player decides to use an exclusive card in another big tournament, they will have a distinct advantage over everyone else in that tournament. I do not believe that this is a fair way to encourage people to play in tournaments.
I don't know how you can say that the World Champion cards wern't rediculously broken. They were cards that clearly gave a large advantage the player utilizing the card. You don't even have to work or combo for that advantage. The card itself creates the advantage making it a broken card.

I wouldn't really say any of the tournament cards in dbz were broken, with the exception of the last 3 world champion cards. But none of the people who own them are using the cards in tournaments. Most other tournament cards also had a large amount released so although you may not be able to get them in booster packs the cards still aren't too dificult to find.
The ones that have good powers and are hard to find can give you an advantage during tournaments, but when most of the good players all have these cards, it doesn't really matter. Score's dbz card game has a lot of strategy involved in the games, and if the player is good then they should be able to find a way to get around most powerful cards in the opponents deck.

Bandai = free prize support which is overwhelming(Over 100 card promos, over 8 mats, posters...etc.)
Upperdeck = $25 for 25 cards and 1 mat (Limit to 2 you can buy)
I'll let you decide who pwns more...lol :p

I was a huge supporter of the old Dragonball Z game myself. I have to aggress that special cards for the winners was always nice. But here is a solution to that problem. There could still be special cards for the winners of the big tournaments, but make them alt art, a unique foil, and then release a standard version of it to the general public in a set like 3-6 months later. This way everybody wins.

I'm good with that. The only thing I don't like about giving cards out to winners is if they are exclusive. That solves the problem so I'm down :)

I agree that reprints are the best option. You take a card that is pretty popular in the current format, can be common, uncommon, or rare, slap a different image on the card, give it a unique look as far as the template goes, make it a different type of foil, and only print so many of them to give out to the winners. This creates no imbalance in the game and gives winners a usable, 'show off-able while I'm kicking your butt', trophy.
Most card games I've ever played have done it this way and it has worked out well for them. The only time it doesn't work is when you give out so many of them that the market becomes flooded with them and everyone has their company. As long as it is rare enough to get (not actual rarity), things work out great.

Yup, that's definately how it should be done ^^
