if we get naruto quality mats but with Dragonball characters on it that is going to be amazing. Those mats will be over 9000!
Ah the forum glitch we meet again.
So acording to james post, bandai already has plans to have OP prizes such as game mats and promo cards, like they do for Naruto. IMO This is probobly one of the smartest things they can do, because the Naruto game mats are one of the biggest incentives to play in tournaments right now. Hopefully the mats will have the same quality as the newer Naruto mats, and will feature individual characters, like a Goku mat, a trunks/Goten Gotenks mat, Vegeta mat, etc.
I'm Realy looking foward to having the game start off with OP.
Discuss your opinions on the intended immediate OP and prizes.

For sure man! I was really impressed with the prize support that bandai gave for the Naruto CCG. If they support this game in the same manor then I will be very pleased. I hope the first mats are more impressive than the first Naruto mats though :P
The only thing that I am skeptical on about the organized play is about Canada getting a bigger tournament. Not a chuunin but a jonin. Bandai neglected Canada in the Naruto CCG and I pray they don't make the same mistake with this game.

Haha, Trunks is awesome, eh? He ranks so high on the awesome scale that a mat with him would almost be asking too much.
Kid Trunks is cool too :P Minus the childish antics oO

Pan is the only cute lil' one.
Not Goten, Kid Trunks, Vageta Jr., Goku Jr.
Only Pan...and Olimar...yes Olimar must make an appearance. Olimar + DBZ = Epic Win.

Haha, Olimar is too good not to be mentioned in Z :P
Pan is very cute ^^ I think Videl is cuter though. She would be much more if she could go Super Saiyan.

Haha, yes, yes she can :P So can Chi Chi. I'd say Chi Chi is the scariest at that form of transformation.

Yeah, the more people you get into the game the better your tournaments will be. You could always sign up as a meijin for this game. You could be running the show one week and have your meijin run it the next week. That way everyone gets to play and everyone is happy :D
I wonder what the ratio's will be for super rares, etc.

Oh, dude! DragonBall Z action figures still sell and the anime has been out for years. These mats are going to be wanted by almost every anime fan. It's going to be a riccamorale when people try to sell them on ebay.

If I have to quit due to power creep like Naruto's, I hope to be able to pull off a small profit or something of OP, or at least break even. The game's looking pretty similar to Naruto ATM; Jump says the pack ratio is the same. (Post-DL SR ratio)

That's good to hear. I'm sure bandai was looking to make the game in a way that it would be familiar to Naruto CCG players. They probably intended it to sway people into playing both games at the same time.

SR ratio is 1:8, not 1:6. James told me the reason for this is because the set is rather small, so they include less supers per box to increase sales on the boxes.

Ah okay. Well if the boxes are cheap then there is no quarrel here from me. If they are the price of regular boxes then that might get some bad feedback from the community.

I think it would be awesome of Bandai could give cash prizes (or a Visa Gift Cards) out as prizes, similar to that of the DBZ CCG released by Score Entertainment. $5000 for winning first place at Worlds, $250 - $1000 for premier event weren't bad prizes at all.

I know from experience with the Naruto CCG that Bandai doens't like to give out Cash Prizes. The closest they've come to giving out cash is gift cards for bestbuy. They prefer giving you consoles, games, handhelds, gift cards, and cards.

Never going to happen and I can guarantee that.
The mats alone will bring people in flocks to this game. Especially if they look anything like that awesome pack art.

It's a shame for those really competitive players.
You spend your hard earned money to buy packs and/or boxes, most of the cards you never use since they're so bad, travel to their events (I hope they have more than Naruto so travel won't be so bad), pay to enter those events, and if you're lucky/skilled enough to win, you can't even break even with what you spent to get there as the first place winner.
Am I saying everyone should be able to break even, or even make money off of a game?
No.
But as the first place winner of a big event, getting a PS3 and a few boxes just doesn't cover what you spent to get there, especially if you have to trek across a few states to get there.
Now, I understand, we're pretty much buying the experience of playing the game as well. And that's great. But I believe shelling out about 200 bucks for the grand prize in addition to whatever they get at a tournament on the level of a Jonin Event won't break Bandai, and would be a great help to those hard core players.

Yeah, I totally agree with you man. It's the age old dillema that all competative card players find themselves in.
The only tournament that you can really expect a prize like that is GenCon. That's where the prize of $5,000 came from. It happened to be the amount of money SCORE was giving away to the winner at GenCon. I heard you also got to create your own card.
Within a year or two Naruto and DBZ will get their own Shonen Jump Championships. That will probably be the sought after tournaments. It will definately make the game extremely popular. SJC's were all that Yu-Gi-Oh! had. When Yu-Gi-Oh! flops Shonen will look for another game to bring up to that level. I look forward to that day

Granted, people shouldn't play just to get cash prizes or an equivalent.
However, you're right, it would be nice to receive at least something for your efforts, other than more cards.
With the amount of play testing and deck construction that it must take to win a large tournament, if someone does, I'm sure they don't need one more box of cards, all of which I'm sure they already own.
But it would be nice to have one tournament on tour similar to the Shonen Jump. I think every game could use it. Players flock from everywhere in the area to attend, and it draws a few pretty pennies company. So, I don't think it would actually hurt them to host such an event.
But, in any case, we'll just have to continue playing the game for the number one intended reason until that happens; because it's fun. ^_^
(Hopefully this game is fun.) ^_^;

Oh, it will be fun! I agree, every card game should have large scale tournaments as often as Shonen Jump Championships. One of the big factors in Yu-Gi-Oh! lasting this long is due to those SJC's. If Shonen Jump chooses to pick up DragonBall and Naruto for those tournaments then I cannot forsee an ending to either. What I believe will really entice Shonen Jump to step-up and grab these as their new TCG endorsement is that they are compatible.

I'm sorry to say, if all I got was a playmat for winning an event, I'd probably quit playing the game, as I'm sure a lot of the competitive players would do as well. Playmats are good only as extra prizes, and prizes for lower level events like locals, prereleases, and side tournaments at conventions.

Naw, "event" type tournaments have boxes and "electronic" prizes.

I would hope that is it fairly obvious that he is referring to Local tournament prizes. As Evil Jim said, the bigger events will get better prize support, which they have in the Naruto CCG. Bandai prize support is amazing! It attracts players and keeps players coming back. Kudos to bandai for their amazing prize support :)
