I am not trying to put down the new game because I will play no matter what just because it is z, but these are a few problems I see already.
1. The game already has cell. I don;t know how many of you played the old game but the #1 problem was that they ran out of story line. if thats the case this game might be over too soon.
2. they got rid of the main personality. I liked in the old game where everybody's favorite character could be their mp. but know you will be forced to use everybody.
3. lack of originality. making the game compatible with naruto is a cool idea, but it will be like playing the same game. people might get bored with it.
I hope that they don't mess up the game. I will be playing it, and hope it does well, these are just a few of the flaws I saw and hope bandai sucessfully finds a way around them.

yea thats wut i was thinking. if it starts out with cell in the first pack then it could run out 2 fast, but on the other hand the game will be 2 slow to start off if they start the set with dragonball characters cause people wont have their favorite charcters. but i think they can find away around that. like idk mayb they will have short expansion sets focused on movies. that will give them loads of time but mayb not the best idea. lets just hope it ends up like naruto, we both have great fan basis but it might not be as popular as the naruto ccg. and plenty of successful ccg have based their gameplay on other hits games and has worked out just fine. example: wow ccg based gameplay on vs/magic.

Perhaps, but maybe not. If they jump around, instead of trying to follow the anime episode for episode, then they possibly have a much larger pool to draw from. Heck, DB is long enough, that even if they went in order, there'd be PLENTY to draw from.
2. they got rid of the main personality. I liked in the old game where everybody's favorite character could be their mp. but know you will be forced to use everybody.
I didn't play the old game so I cannot comment here, BUT......
3. lack of originality. making the game compatible with naruto is a cool idea, but it will be like playing the same game. people might get bored with it.
Bandai is a toy company, not a card game company. One whose numerous attempts at hitting the right game have, unfortunately, failed. By drawing on the realative success that is NAruto CCG, and kribbing some of it's gameplay aspects, DBCCG might not suffer the same fate as the rest....and being even marginally compatible with Naruto will make for some interesting options - the least of which to consider is the idea that Naruto now becomes an INSTANT EXPANSION for the DBCCG, and vice-versa.
I hope that they don't mess up the game. I will be playing it, and hope it does well, these are just a few of the flaws I saw and hope bandai sucessfully finds a way around them.
Replies in bold....
While these could be seen as flaws, I prefer to see them as strangths. At first *I* was opposed to the compatibility as well, until I realized the plethora of tournament options now available to me as a Meijin, and the fun of battling decks from two seperate games against each other as a player.

1. it's not going in order so thats nothing to worry about
2. not a flaw, just is not an old z clone

What's up everybody.
I know everyone is as excited about this new games as I am, and that's great, because the more people who take an interest, the better the possibilities of this game being a huge success.
I wnated to add my opinion in regards to Soviet Prince's message.
The way i see it, none of these are disadvantages.
I did play the original score game and I loved it, even more when I pulled two super saiyan 3 goku's out of a Buu starter, talk about luck.
Anyways, I see this new game adding even more possibilities and creativeness than the original.
MP' are gone - yeah, heartbreak right, but maybe not. Teams aren't such a bad Idea, and if you really think about it, all of the fights in Z had our favorite characters teaming up against the main bad dude(s). There was Piccolo and Goku against Raditz. All the Z warriors againts Nappa(but if you want to be really technical mainly Krillin and Piccolo teaming and gohan in the end) Then Krillin and Gohan helping out goku. And Gohan, Piccolo and Krillin all against Freiza in his final form. I could go on, but i think you get the point.
Another thing that intrigues me about teams, is that it opens the door for interesting stroies. Someone mentioned that you could put goku in a team with Frieza, that's awesome, we now have an evil version of goku or a heroic version of Freiza, the possibilities are endless with teams. Maybe we could make goku a into a Majin, or maybe cell, that would be sick (in a great way) or even more exciting, Brolly.
And don't be freaked out if later villians of the show wind up in the first set, i'm sure Buu will be in there to. Think of this as the core set, like something compared to Magic. This could be something like that, to get all the die hard DBZ fans and the noobs into it, and let them get a feel for every character and the basic game mechanics, then later expansions may delve into certain themes and maybe divert into something completely differnet than Naruto.
I'm not worried at all about this, and the more I hear the more I get excited, sure everything I said is jsut pure speculation, but it's all we have going for us right now. But this is something i will be checking out, even if i am wrong.

I actually like the idea that it is similar to naruto just because it will be easier to learn (for me).
Honestly, I never played the old game, but hopefully Bandai can find some way to bring back this game in a different matter.

1. The game already has cell. I don;t know how many of you played the old game but the #1 problem was that they ran out of story line. if thats the case this game might be over too soon.
The game is being made not by saga like score did. Cards from Dragon Ball, DBZ and DBGT can all be released in the same set.
Score's dbz card game never really had a problem with running out of sets either, they could have started over from dragon ball or maybe make dbz again after gt ended. Toptiergaming will be making new virtual card sets for score's game and will make them like Bandai is, with cards from every saga in the same set.
2. they got rid of the main personality. I liked in the old game where everybody's favorite character could be their mp. but know you will be forced to use everybody.
I liked the main personalities as well. But just because this game has similar pictures on the cards doesn't mean it will be anything like score's card game.
3. lack of originality. making the game compatible with naruto is a cool idea, but it will be like playing the same game. people might get bored with it.
As Kintaro said, Naruto is Bandai's only successful card game. All the others have failed. Maybe they don't want to risk the dbccg failing and think the best idea is to make it the same as their already successful card game.
This is one of the main reasons why I possibly won't be playing the new dbccg (the other is that I'm not sure if it will even be released in my country...), but I'll wait until I see the first set before I decide to play or not.
Hopefully it will be different to Naruto, putting a picture of goku on the card is not enough to turn it into a different game. If theres no difference then Naruto players will just be paying bandai more money for the same cards they already have.

I played the old game, and hated it, sorry guys. I have only really gotten in depth with two games, Yugi, and Naruto. I loved Yugi about 2 yrs ago, and when Naruto first came out, i fell in love with it. DB, DBZ, and GT are some of my fav anime, and i cannot wait for it to come out, and since it will be similar to the game i already play and love, that makes me VERY happy.:D
And just because u dont base it off one character ALONE, doesnt mean u cant still base it around that character.. lol. i still plan on making a, wait for it, WAIT FOR IT, Cell based deck. lol

i hated it 2. and since it is like naruto u can still base it off 1 character. like how my naruto deck is focused around naruto, with all the jutsus and limit my characters to ones in relation 2 naruto (how cliche, i no, but i only play for fun).
and even though i have played about 10 tcgs and play 4 of them competitively this and naruto were the only games i've have looked forward 2

i see some of your points, but i still would still like to see some originality in the game, and would like decks based arond their characters. like namekian decks, sayain decks, z fighters, and other combinations, even something lwith pwople like bubbles, king kai, and gregory. The one good thing people don't give credit to the old game for was the vast amount of combos and different style decks. I see a lack of this with naruto. When I went to regionals for dbz I always saw original decks and combos no matter where I played, but with naruto, most of the decks are expected. I have not yet seen a deck that wowed me. In dbz there was bulma deck out, sayain blitz, chi-chi infinite bomb, so many unique decks that made the game fun, and I would at least like that put into this game.

well when i went 2 some jonin tournaments i saw a bunch of naruto decks that were unique and they placed and some got stomped but that doesnt mean naruto is a bad game just cause of some broken decks

Unfortunately I doubt this game is going to be able to do that... The old dbz card game was the only game I knew of that was able to have so many different types of decks with different strategies. Lots of other card games can do this, but most of the decks are bad. You could have lots of different decks, but only 2-3 are good which means that everyone is using them.
In the old dbz card game you can have random and unexpected strategies winning big tournaments. Theres obviously still some decks that are better than others, but good players will be able to build almost anything and still do good with it.
Hopefully Bandai will be able to do this with the new dbccg. But we will have to wait for a few sets to be released before we know... If you really liked the old dbz card game you can still play it at toptiergaming.

This was my opinion at first as well. I kept saying "If I want to play Naruto, I'll play Naruto. If I want to play DBCCG, I'll play DBCCG." But then it was pointed out that the compatibility will be with "side rules" only, and while they may be cross-hatching some of the mechs, it's supposed to be an entirely different game.
As always, we shall see.

Yeah, a good majority of people would deifnatley agree. In my mind, Bandai has basically taken the template Naruto CCG mechanics, improved them, and placed them into a new game called the DragonBall CCG. With that thinking, its fairly obvious that the improved game would be better than the unimproved.

Based on the response by a lot of people on the boards, I believe that peopel will play for the sole reason that the game is based on the DragonBall series. I'm sure we can build a good sized player base through the already large community here at the bandai dragonball forums. From that we can expand to other CCG players who will defintley see how that we are playing an outstanding game and migrate over to our community.

I disagree CaMeRoN, the main reason why people played the Score version of DBZ and GT was due to the game mechanics not just because it was a Dragonball game.
Considering the fact that the new Dragonball CCG is gonna probably end up playing alot like the Naruto CCG it might not appeal to some DBZ fans who never played Naruto before or they might like the Old Score version better.
I find it weird how everyone tends to jump the gun thinking that this new game is gonna take off like nothing. It really depends though, sure the old game is dead but to see the new game being like the Naruto CCG with similiar mechanics isn't very original If you ask me.
Though on the bright side the Dragonball CCG might actually play faster than the Old Z and GT games from Score where it took you an hour and a half to finish one entire game.

What I said earlier was based only on the large response on these boards, to a card game being created based on the DragonBall series. I did not infer anything to the SCORE version of this game. Yes, mechanics do matter and they will keep players playing a game for a long time. However, a large starting playerbase is built on the series and the mechanics. There are many people in the playerbase and all have different reasons for playing. Picking and choosing why the group wishes to play probably isn't the way to go about it. I think it's safe to say that ther are people who play for the series, people who play for the game mechanics, and those who play for both.
Your right, it is unoriginal but it does introduce a neat aspect where we can play the DragonBall CCG vs Naruto CCG. I like that idea and I do believe it's goign to make the transition for old Naruto CCG players into the DragonBall CCG a lot easier. It might also be a lot more appealing to those players since they will not have to learn a bunch of new mechanics.
I apologize for speaking for the masses here but I believe the reason people are taking that attitude is because they wish to have this game succeed. Now, in order for us to want this game to succeed then we must be positive about the Organized Play. I want this game to take off immediately and be very popular. Therefor I am going to promote the game with a positive attitude.
Playing faster would be a good thing ;) My butt would get sore sitting for 1h 30 minutes :p

exactly we just won't it to be good and are trying to get this game as popular as it can get. The DB ccg game is also a fresh start for ppl who wanted to get in Naruto but would not becuse of the mass sets it has out. I also think this is Bandai big shot to get a Naruto Shippuudden like game out in the US.
