Similar to Naruto CCG [Archive] - Dragon Ball

I'm a little skeptical about this Card Game being similar to the Naruto CCG. We havn't received much information from James or Kim regarding what similarities. They have said that they will be compatible. This leads me to believe that the Dragonball Card Game will be a turn based game and will feature teams. I really hope that this is not the case. I wasn't a huge fan of building my deck around drops in Naruto. The DragonBall anime features one-on-one fights so I don't see how a team situation really enters into the picture.

James & Kim; Any hints or clues as to how the game mechanics are would be very helpful.

That is taken directly from James' post and the beginning makes me think it will be played somewhat like Naruto.

IDK i'd like info as to whether it will be similar to the japanes version.

Also if they are playable against each other I think that that is a very good idea as it makes the Naruto Card game much more fun as well.

I guess that means it will be the japanese version.

Bill and I were looking for a website that would give us some incling as to the game mechanics of the version in japan. We found nothing. If anyone finds anything could you post it here?

Anyway, those cards dont really look like they can be compatable with Naruto. I hope we dont get those ones. Also, I think Bandai should get Bleach and One Piece too so they could all be made compatable.

Hey boys!!

Looking at the Japanese rules, I am really interested in how Bandai wants to make the two compatible....as they are now, the Japanese rules do not allow for the compatibility of the two games....

However, I keep hearing that there's some sort of side rules (James hasn't answered a message I sent to him yet, so I take all rumors with a grain fo salt) and they could possibly change the rules up to match, though that seems unlikely as the current Japanese game is very strong over there right now....

Honestly, if it plays SIMILAR to naruto, thats a good thing. Naruto has some of the best mechanics, however it also has some retarded timing issues *stares at gary* but those could be worked out for this game.

I doubt they would do teams the way naruto does them, but Im sure they will aver some kind of ally system that as multiple characters adding their power.

Yeah, that sounds more logical. I wonder if any of the movies will get their own cards. I noticed Dymos mentioned above a team that took on Brolli.

The Bandai Japan Dragon Ball game and the new Bandai US Dragon Ball game are different.

The Bandai US Dragon Ball game engine is similar to the Naruto game engine as the press release alludes to. There are are some minor differences in the DB engine over the Naruto engine.

There will be bridge rules to allow Naruto decks to be played against Dragon Ball decks.

Rumors say that it's going to be a mix. The sets won't go in the chronological order of the series'. Instead they will follow another scheme set out by bandai.

I really like the idea of not going in chronological order. That way we won't have people complaining that a certain character was in a certain arc but wasn't printed. We will also have the opportunity to have a lot of reprints of characters. I.e Even though Recoome was printed once in a set, he could get printed again with Uubuu.

I like how its just like the anime. Its like the effects and cards go with that arc. If we get mixed, We might get a Goku from DB and a SSJ3 card...

I can't see that working man. They have different backs. There would be hell to pay if someone was able to figure out what card they were goign to draw based on what kind of backing the card had.

I realise there are solid backing to some sleeves. However those sleeves are really hard to get. If someone can reccomend a brand name that is good for solid backs then please do.

Yeah your right, I didn't even think about that. And I haven't really seen those sleeves for sell around here in awhile, other then at this Pokemon Prerelease they had some yellow ones...and that would've looked so awesome with these DBZ cards.

Dragon Shield are the ONLY sleeves with COMPLETELY solid backs.

Other sleeves are solid, but you can still see through them.

Also they announced that DBZ and Naruto would not mix, but would need special rules to mix.

I'm fine with that. Mixing would be a little wierd anyways. I would be fine if the rules created allowed both games to compete against eachother without mixing.

You shouldn't mix cards together in one deck as each game has different costing systems (Chakra vs. [DBCostName])... but it's not impossible.

Content will be from all the Dragon Ball properties.

I dunno, If Bandai can make this game reflect the Dragonball series closely like Score Entertainment did then it should be good hopefully. Bandai has had trouble with their playtesters regarding errata/ban certain cards before but when Score did the Old DBZ and GT games they actually did their job right and actually listened to the players more.

Yeah, that does appear to be the key difference between them. I'm okay with that as I alwyas liked it when Shenron appeared in the series. Being able to play him is that much cooler :D

Ok, ok, yeah, but all I was trying to infer was they are similar. So, maybe the earth dragon would be a 9 drop with a awesome effect, and the Namek can have the awesome stats.

Yeah, I know what you are getting at. Shinfitz took what you said out of context. It's possible that they might do something similar to that. We'll have to wait and see what bandai comes up with for the first set.

Yeah, speaking of first set. From the stuff that we have seen, we know there will be Cell. But I wonder how much from Dragon Ball will be in it. I am hoping to make a Red Ribbon deck, with some Androids.

Well, Jtakenaka has said that the first set is going to be small. It will probably feature a couple androids and some of the bigger Dragonball characters. I'm certain we will see; Yamcha, Tien, Chaosu, Tao Pai Pai, Piccolo, Roshi, Krillin, Goku, and Bulma. We might even get those three villains that chase Bulma and Goku around. I can't remember their names for the life of me :P

Emperor Pilaf! That's his name :) Thanks for that, hehe. He is really cool. His machines were the best :D He was a villain for quite a few episodes, eh? The only time he really dropped off as a character was when the world tournament started.

I didn't but it is definately a possibility! Of course, we don't know how the game mechanics will work. For all we know they might not use chakra (K.I.).

Yeah, that's why I used that as my example :p I can't see that being a good basis for a competative card game. I'm sorry but I couldn't play risk, monopoly, clue, or any other board game competatively :(

That's kind of what I thought as well. And with the series being so short, I figured it'll come and go reeeeal fast.

Usually, I buy cardgames I like by the case - like SHIPPUUDEN. This one I ordered a box and two starters. 50+ card set size + limited playability = decent but short lived game. I'm atracted to the thought process behind the game mechanic....

Hehe yeah sort of why I decided to try it.
When I first heard about it, I was hoping for images from the films, not the anime stuff (it was still good though), since that's what I am a fan of....

The gameplay looks to be very interesting, though it seems that it's likely short lived....
